The National Museum of existence beginning with the establishment of an association called Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen, founded by the Dutch Government on 24 April 1778. Pada masa itu di Eropa tengah terjadi revolusi intelektual ( the Age of Enlightenment ) yaitu dimana orang mulai mengembangkan pemikiran-pemikiran ilmiah dan ilmu pengetahuan. Pada tahun 1752 di Haarlem, Belanda berdiri De Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (Perkumpulan Ilmiah Belanda). In the year 1752 in Haarlem, the Netherlands stood De Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (Dutch Scientific Society). Hal ini mendorong orang-orang Belanda di Batavia (Indonesia) untuk mendirikan organisasi sejenis. This prompted the Dutch in Batavia (Indonesia) to establish such organizations.
Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen (BG) merupakan lembaga independen yang didirikan untuk tujuan memajukan penetitian dalam bidang seni dan ilmu pengetahuan khususnya dalam bidang-bidang ilmu biologi, fisika, arkeologi, kesusastraan, etnologi dan sejarah, Berta menerbitkan hash penelitian. Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen (the BG) is an independent institution established for the purpose of advancing penetitian in the arts and sciences, especially in the areas of biological sciences, physics, archeology, literature, ethnology and history, Berta publishes research hash. Lembaga ini mempunyai semboyan " Ten Nutte van het Algemeen " (Untuk Kepentingan Masyarakat Umum). This institution has the slogan "Ten Nutte van het Algemeen" (Public Interest).
